Not everybody seems to understand what I wanted to say in the group's last journal, most of you did and thank you guys for the positive feedback but a few seemed to misinterpret what I said.

To clarify this whole situation. I am talking about the Blonde Samus in her BLUE zero suit from games such as smash bros and the prime series. => fav.me/d2ai390 When you finish Metroid on the NES you can see Samus as a brunette and it has even been brought to my attention that she can be blonde when in zero suit and equipped with missiles. My point is as long as the artwork refers to an obvious non NES form of hers I will deny it.

You need to remember one thing: This is a NES group and I will always keep it that way, Blonde Blue zero suit Samus is NOT a NES character.

I have been told this robs people of a certain freedom and it means I am banning certain works. This is not true, it is in fact quite the opposite I encourage diversity and you can draw or create whatever you want. As long as it is NES related. It is a NES group, you are part of a NES group, I am very careful with my selection and try to get as much artwork in the group as I can find as I am often just searching through dA to find new works and artists to add to our group.

It is not like I am holding a screening process of what I like and what I don't like, when it is not NES related I simply do not accept it.
I state it in the group's Submission rules on our group's page: "Please note that this is a NES only group! If you submit an artwork which has both Link from the Adventure of Link and Link from the Ocarina of Time in it I will decline said work!"

So in the end all I do with this is keep non NES related stuff out, you can draw mario in a pilot costume hunting down Simon Belmont in a level from Kirby for all I care...as long as the versions drawn exist in NES games. You can dress mario up and draw him in any style you want, you can make him look like any mario you want him to be and I will accept him...add FLUDD (Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)) and he is gone from this group. Where I draw the line as well for example is when Mario would be drawn in his paper style from paper Mario.

It doesn't need to resemble the official characters as long as it is obvious they have counter parts in a NES game. When people draw the blonde Samus in her Blue zero suit they are referring to a version of her from post-NES games. It is that simple.

Lakitu Girl by Jmanvelez: A free interpretation of Lakitu in human form.
MARIO CREW: Cosa Nostra by Eddy-Shinjuku A super realistic version with different outfits but all powerups comply with NES games.
Shy Guy by GerrySwanson A free take on a shyguy.
Despondent Mega Man - Bad Days Part 8 by JesseDuRona A comic with different characters and weapons but ALL are from NES games.
bubble bobble by tobiee Character doesn't resemble the original sprites but is an obvious NES game character
Boulder Dash Emote by Krissi001 Emote is non game related  but the level recreated is a perfect duplicate of a true NES game.
:thumb338502052: Character is not the boss of the level but BOTH are from the same NES game

So bottom line, I allow as much freedom as you want as long as the BASIC idea of your artwork originated from a NES game.
Blonde blue zero suit Samus does NOT appear in a NES game.

Now this journal EDIT might have been excessive but I deemed it necessary. I hope this cleared up some of the confusion.

Lakitu Girl belongs to Jmanvelez
MARIO CREW: Cosa Nostra belongs to Eddy-Shinjuku

ORIGINAL JOURNAL

Hey everyone,

I have been thinking this over and over and finally came to a conclusion.
Let me explain something, I am very strict on what is being added to the group's galleries. When there is even a SNES in a picture I refuse it, if I see a mario artwork and he is holding a cloud flower or if the level stems from the N64 game I refuse it, if a princess Zelda is drawn and looks like her Ocarina of Time counterpart I definitely refuse it so why accept the blonde Samus version?

I allow some freedom of course in character design or the way certain artists draw their characters when there is no apparent link between other games but I cannot and will not accept this one any more. When people draw zero suit Samus blonde they are referring to numerous games (I think Metroid prime was the first) but it is an obvious take of something from a different console and not the NES. The artworks that have already been accepted in the group will remain but from now on I will no longer accept artworks with the blonde version of Samus Aran.

Now to clarify, in the NES version of Metroid, Samus, when in her zero suit form, has green hair and a purple outfit.
Here are some examples of artists who drew (cosplayed, crafted etc...) the real NES version of Samus:
Samus Green by jennduong Samus - Metroid 1986 by bratchny Metroid - Samus, NES version by Nissie Samus Aran (Justin Bailey) Metroid by NiGHTmaren-Cosplay NES Samus by Icewolf883

From now on I will also pay more attention when people submit her in her armour, if I even see one small blonde lock of hair it will be refused in this group.

Thank you guys for understanding and have a gr8-bit day! //shot

Tom

Actually I think what brought to my attention is that usually some people don't bother reading journals if it's too long. Or they think they knew everything by glimpsing through a few lines.

May I suggest you pick out a few "elites" who understands and have good amount of knowledge of NES games to filter through people's submissions? Only art works that are approved may enter the gallery. I'm not sure if you're already doing that or not since I don't have the approval privilege position from here but from another group I'm in.

And one other thing, you said as long as it was from NES games, so for example, Megaman series 1-6 were from NES and art of those would be ok but not from 7+ since they are not on the system?
